Lenten Season - Holy Week 2026
16 Mar, 2026
The word “Lent” comes from an Old English term meaning spring—a season of renewal, growth, and new beginnings. In the Christian tradition, Lent is a sacred forty-day journey marked by prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Through these practices, the faithful prepare their hearts to celebrate the glorious Resurrection of Jesus Christ at Easter.
Following the biblical pattern of forty days of preparation—recalling events such as Noah’s time in the ark, Israel’s years in the desert, and Christ’s fasting in the wilderness—the Church calls believers to deeper conversion. This season invites us to turn away from sin, trust more fully in God’s boundless mercy, and renew our commitment to love and service. By embracing sacrifice and compassion, Christians enter more deeply into the Paschal Mystery: the suffering, death, and triumph of Christ that brings hope and new life to the world.
